The Courtallam waterfall is situated 59 kms from Tirunelveli. It is called the `spa of the south` and it is located at an elevation of 170 metres, on the Western Ghats. This is also a health resort apart from being a tourist spot of Tamil Nadu.
The waters of the Courtallam waterfall is said to have therapeutic value to cure physical ailments as the water flows through a herbal forest. During the months from June to September, when the weather is pleasant here, thousands of tourists from far and near visit this here.
It is located 55km from Tirunelveli Junction. There is a falls where Shiva and Parvathi appear befor the great saint "Agasthiya". Hence the falls is popularly called as Agasthiyar Falls.
Manimuthar Falls is a natural water falls flowing through out the year situated above the Manimuthar dam . Really it is an adventorous feeling, if people drive there by bike. The falls near by has a pond which has a depth of 90 feet. It is really a picturesqe place. It is just in 90kms from Tiruchendur.
It is a calm hill station in the Western Ghats about 6000 ft. above the sea level. Manjolai is an adjacent town and a perfect summer resort. It is 35 kms from Tirunelveli. Oothu and Kuthiraivetti are excellent viewpoints of this hill station. Regular bus services are available from Manimutharu and Ambasamudram.
The river Thamirabarani originates and starts its course from here. It is situated just opposite to the upper dam. This place can be reached by crossing the dam by boat.
The flora and fauna of this sanctuary are very famous. Tiger, panther, jackal, wild dogs, cobra, python and several snakes and other reptiles, the lion-tailed monkey etc can be seen in the thick rest. The best season to visit here is between March and September.
This sanctuary is situated Tirunelveli in Nanguneri taluk. It is a small and beautiful village full of natural scenery. During the season from January to April, more than 10,000 birds from various countries migrate to this place.
It is situated near Nanguneri. The temple here has a stone pillar with a conical bore in the centre about a foot long. This Vishnu temple contains marvellous sculptures and each image produces a musical note when struck.
It is mainly a tiger reserve forest. However, other animals like leopard, sambar, sloth bear, cheetah and a wide variety of Indian primates including bonnet macaque, common langur, Nilgiri langur and lion-tailed macaque can also be seen. Between October and January is the best time to visit here. The visitors can reserve the forest rest house for accommodation.
It is a paradise for both the nature-lover and landscape-photographer. A unique feature of Kanyakumari district is that it has all kinds of natural eco-systems. Thus, one can see beaches, mountain valleys, evergreen forests in the deep interior, rubber and clove plantations on the highlands, etc. - all in a 50 km radius of Nagercoil
Thirparappu falls is a natural beauty spot attracts many tourists. It is located at a distance of 100 kms. from Tiruchendur. There is a lord shiva temple. The lord after destroying the yagam of dhaxan as virabhadra murthi has taken abode over here. This temple is one in the shivalaya ottam temples.
Padmanabhapuram Palace Capital of Travancore until 1798 A.D. It is an ancient seat of Travancore rulers, situated at a distance of 90 Kms from Tirunelveli. There is a palace inside the fort which covers an area of 6 acres. On display in this palace are many antiquities
This small 18th century fort overlooking the sea is worn visiting. The sea is not rough and suitable for bath.Overlooking the sea, it is a circular serene tourist spot. It is a beautiful picnic spot and an ideal spot for relaxing with abundant coconut trees.
close to the Pechiparai village of Kanyakumari district. The pechiparai reservoir was originated by the groundwork of the pechiparai dam. The reservoir plays a major role is supplying the drinking water and it is also used in irrigation of crops. The pechiparai reservoir holds the least storage capacity of just 22.49% however, it assists the farmers to use the water to take care of their crops. Pechiparai Reservoir is a must see for the nature lovers as the clouds touch the top of the hills around the dams on a misty day.
Muttom Beach, situated at a hamlet named Muttom, is about 16 km from Nagercoil and 32 km from Kanyakumari. Muttom Beach is popular for its rocky shores and sunset point. There is also a lighthouse built by the British at Muttom Beach, which is about 100 years old. The steep rocky shores of Muttom Beach are guarded with stainless steel fences. There are huts and benches at Muttom Beach, for visitors to sit and watch the sun set and the sea.
mathoor Hanging Bridge or Mathoor Hanging Trough or Mathur Aqueduct is a popular place of tourist attraction in Kanyakumari. Mathoor Hanging Bridge is situated in Aruvikkarai village of Thiruvattar Panchayat of Kanyakumari District. Mathoor Hanging Bridge was constructed for drought relief and agricultural support for the adjacent taluks of Vilavancode and Kalkulam. There is a staircase from the top to the bottom of the Mathoor Bridge leading to entertainment facilities like children's park and view tower. From the top of Mathoor Hanging Bridge a panoramic view of the place can be seen.
It is on the sea-shore at the Bay of Bengal. An ancient Roman Catholic Church is here where the Cross is said to have been brought from Jerusalem, This Church is also associated with St. Xavier, the famous missionary from West. Since there are other small Churches here in this place, it is called as "Chinna Jerusalem" (Small Jerusalem).
From here the great warrior "Veerapandiya Kattabomman" raised his voice against the British regime in the 17th Century A.D. The fort was converted as a memorial by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu in 1974. Sri Devi Jakkammal Temple, the hereditary Goddess of Kattabomman, is located near the fort. The cemetery of British soldiers are seen near the fort. Within the memorial Hal!, there are beautiful paintings on the walls depicting the heroic deeds of the saga.
